September 16, 2024 Guild Meeting

Join us at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 16, 2024, by Zoom, as Jennifer Moore presents:

Double Rainbow: An Evolution in Color

My work in doubleweave has always focused on the interaction of color between the two layers of cloth. I will show a number of images of my work in doubleweave pickup that play one solid colored layer against a layer in a gradation of a spectrum of colors. In 2016 I began developing a system of color rotations in both the warp and the weft that combine with all of the possibilities for bringing different colors to the surface of the cloth and weaving in multiple blocks. I will show how this idea developed for me and the process that I go through in designing my textiles in my Double Rainbow technique.

Meta Weaves with Liz Hill

Join us on Monday, March 18th to hear about “Meta Weaves” with Liz Hill.

Liz Hill is a handweaver living in Western Massachusetts with her wonderful husband and her very bad dog in an intermittently empty nest (degree of emptiness dependent on where her three adult children are in their life adventures and what her current loom count is).

“There are many great essays about the importance of craft, and handweaving in particular, but I can only write about what handweaving means to me, and why I have spent much of the last 25 years immersed in it – warping, weaving, teaching, designing, writing, etc.”

Color, Pattern, Shape: From Inspiration to Design

with Karen Donde

Ever get stuck trying to decide what to weave, knit, dye or felt next? This group exercise is designed to rev up your design engine and organize the many options available to you for creating cloth or the objects you make with it. Bring interesting pictures cut from magazines or old calendars, printed pictures from a vacation or your garden, whatever catches your eye. We’ll sort by various design parameters, organize your inspirations in a sketchbook, discuss ways to formulate them into a design and share ideas among the group. Leave with new design tools and maybe your next project.
